About the Presenter

Datin Dr. Thayanithi K. Sandragasu
I am currently a Consultant Ophthalmologist attached to Hospital Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I completed my Masters degree in Surgery (Ophthalmology) from University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in 2002. Subsequently in 2008, I successfully completed the three year glaucoma sub speciality programme. As part of my training, I did a one year fellowship in Westmead and Sydney Eye Hospital in Sydney, Australia from 2006-2007.
In addition, to my busy clinical schedule and administrative duties, I am also a clinical mentor to the postgraduate students and glaucoma fellows. Further, I am an examiner for the Masters examination and the glaucoma exit certification. I am an honorary lecturer with University Technology Mara (UiTM) and also teach MAHSA and Perdana University medical students.
I am an active member of the Malaysia Society of Ophthalmology (MSO) and have been a committee member in various posts for the past six years. I am a member of the Academy of Medicine Malaysia and life member of Malaysian Medical Association. Further, I am the treasurer for the College of Ophthalmology Academy of Medicine for the past 4 years.
Since commencing my practice in glaucoma , I have been actively involved in the training of ophthalmologist ,paramedical staff and creating awareness in the general public about glaucoma. My department currently runs an outreach programme to East Malaysia where we train and treat patients requiring subspeciality treatment .
To the best of my ability, I have participated with my colleagues in organizing numerous scientific congresses both locally and regionally . I have addressed numerous clinical sessions in our local universities, public forums and the media.
I represented Malaysia in the inaugural summit of ophthalmological societies from ASEAN countries (hosted by The Royal College of Ophthalmology of Thailand ) in Bangkok May 2013.
I am a keen advocate of safety in Clinical practice and continuous professional development (CPD). I am a member of the CPD committee in Hospital Kuala Lumpur and also audit clinical outcomes in my unit.
Currently, I am working with the Ministry of Health in the establishment of a center of excellence in eye care in the Klang Valley .
